After closing at its longtime Five Points location last month, Welton Street Cafe is back in business this week, at least temporarily.
On Thursday, the Denver soul food institution starts serving takeout only from 2258 California St., a handful of blocks away from its former and future restaurants.
“I know y’all didn’t think we would keep you hanging the whole time while we wait on our new location to be built out,” the owners wrote earlier this week in a Facebook post.
The Dickerson family plans to reopen their restaurant for good at 2883 Welton St.; they started a fundraiser on Jan. 1 to help pay for the move, build-out and opening. So far they’ve raised nearly $99,000 of the $250,000 goal.
Operating a takeout-only operation for the time being should help their cause. Customers can order fried chicken, catfish, wings and all manner of Southern sides by calling in Thursdays through Saturdays.
“Same good food. Same good family. Same phone number. Different location. We’ve missed you! We hope you missed us too!” the family wrote.
