Given the current trend across the globe, it’s no surprise that TikTok is testing an AI chatbot. Tako may or may not see the light of day.
Tako’s main aim is to help users find useful content on the app. It is an AI-powered tool to help with search and discovery on TikTok.
However, it is also designed to answer user questions in a conversational mode. For example, when users watch a video on an event like “Independence Day”. They may query the chatbot to give more context on the event.
The chatbot is powered by a third-party chat assistant. As of now, TikTok has not stated what AI model the chatbot is running on.
In addition, the chatbot is largely in its testing phase. Nevertheless, the company has already submitted a trademark application for “Tako”. Clearly, this is an indication the company is focused on developing its AI.
Tako Open to Select Users in the Philippines
Daniel Buchuk works for Watchful Technologies, a firm that tracks any kind of upcoming app changes for Fortune 500 companies.
Speaking to the Verge, Daniel stated: “If I’m watching food videos and ask for a recipe I’ll get related TikTok videos for the recipe, or if I ask for good art exhibitions in Paris it’ll show videos alongside a list of suggestions in the answer.”
Currently, Tako is being tested by a small number of users in select markets. The chatbot will appear on the right-hand side of the app above the profile icon. Tapping the icon opens a chat screen where one can input queries.
Via their Twitter handle, TikTok announced the chatbot is in a limited test phase with select users in the Philippines.
TikTok added: “No current plans for this beyond these early tests, but we’re excited to hear your feedback!”
