Success, WA: Dog shot by police after woman attacked at home south of Perth

A 31-year-old woman has been hospitalised with serious injuries after being attacked by her pet dogs inside of a Perth home.

Officers were forced to shoot one of the animals to subdue it, after being alerted to reports of a woman being attacked by two rottweilers in Success at about 4.35pm on Saturday afternoon.

The attack was still going when officers arrived.

“Due to the extremely aggressive nature of the dogs, and the ongoing risk to human life, a police firearm was discharged to stop the attack,” a WA Police spokeswoman said in a statement.

“One of the dogs received serious injuries.”

The woman was taken to Royal Perth Hospital by St John’s Ambulance staff for urgent treatment for serious bite wounds to her arms and legs.

A WA police spokeswoman confirmed on Sunday that the gun shot did not fatally harm the dogs, but did confirm that one rottweiler’s health was in “significant” condition.

City of Cockburn rangers have seized both dogs and plan to investigate the matter further.

The attack comes after a British woman died in her NSW home in August after being mauled on her arms and legs by two rottweilers.

A five-week-old baby also died in a tragic incident in February this year, after she was attacked by a pair of rottweilers while sleeping in a bassinet on NSW south-coast.
