Novato Rotarians install sidewalk piano

The Rotary Club of Novato has placed a piano on a downtown sidewalk as an interactive public art installation.

The instrument, painted in bright colors and the words “Novato proud,” sits outside the Marin Music Center at Grant Avenue and Second Street. Passersby are welcome to play during the music store’s regular business hours, and the store has agreed to secure the piano in the evening, according to a city staff report. Play is prohibited from 7 p.m. to 9 a.m.

The installation is scheduled to remain at the site until Aug. 31.
