With the release of Halo Infinite on December 8th rapidly approaching, Microsoft has released a new six-minute trailer that provides an in-depth look at the game’s single-player component. The company last gave an extended preview of Infinite’s campaign during its Xbox showcase in 2020.

That trailer was met with disdain, with most fans agreeing that the game’s visuals appeared dated. Following that announcement, developer 343 Industries stated that they had work to do, and Microsoft subsequently delayed the game to 2021.
The visuals have been updated in this most recent preview (look at Craig the Brute). The emphasis on sandbox gameplay, on the other hand, hasn’t changed all that much.
During a community Q&A in March, 343 Industries stated that they were inspired by levels such as The Silent Cartographer from Halo: Combat Evolved to design the game in a way that would allow players to accomplish objectives creatively.
That ethos is on display in the trailer’s second half. Master Chief comes across a Banished outpost that he must destroy. You can use his grappling hook to move quickly around the facility and pull enemy weapons and explosives to add to your arsenal. Vehicles, as well as the abilities you can buy for Master Chief, play an important role in the overall gameplay loop.

All of the different gameplay elements combine to form what appears to be a classic but more open Halo experience. It’s just a shame you won’t be able to play the campaign with a friend at launch.
