What began in 1995 with a small group of Irish-American friends meeting at a saloon to plan the inaugural event, the Hermosa Beach St. Patrick’s Day Parade has evolved into a beloved hometown tradition.
And, the 27th annual event, sponsored by the Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce, was no different.
Throngs of green-clad spectators lined the streets to cheer on marching bands, dancers, local nonprofits and unique vehicles to celebrate all things Irish, albeit almost a week early.
The festivities began the evening before with a pre-parade party at Patrick Molloy’s. Then, on Saturday morning, Rafael McMaster, owner and founder of Indivisible Arts, led the procession as the 2023 Grand Marshal. McMaster was recently named “Person of the Year” at the Best of Hermosa awards.
After the parade, there were plenty of family-friendly activities to enjoy on Pier Plaza including music by South Bay Music Connection and a selfie station.
And, Hermosa’s chamber is keeping Irish luck alive until Monday, March 20 with its Leprechaun Scavenger Hunt. Kids and adults alike are invited to stop by downtown businesses to find 18 hidden leprechauns. Get a postcard stamped with at least 15 of the lucky little guys, drop it off and your name is entered to win a prize. Drop off locations: Cultured Slice Sandwich Shop, Sol Baby, Hermosa Beach Chamber of Commerce, Spyder Surf and SoHo Yoga.
