This Thursday, May 5, is Cinco de Mayo, a day that historically celebrates the victory of the Mexican Army over French forces at the Battle of Puebla and, in the United States, is a celebration of Mexican culture and food.
From 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. tomorrow, Guacamole Modern Mexican, a restaurant in NuLu, will celebrate the opening of its rooftop bar with a Cinco de Mayo party.
When LEO photographed the space in February, the rooftop bar was still under construction, although Kentucky Derby Festival poster artist Kacy Jackson’s mural of Frida Kahlo, which decorated it, was already complete.
But the full bar will open tomorrow evening for “Tacos, Tequila and Turntables,” which will include a 360º photo booth, DJs, 50+ tequilas and 25 mezcals. In the parking lot, there will be a tent with a taco truck, $8 cocktails and $5 Topo Chico seltzers.
Guacamole (900 E. Market Street) is open Monday through Saturday from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. and Sunday from 4 p.m. to 9 p.m.
