A man ran onstage and attempted to tackle comedian Dave Chappelle during his “Netflix is a Joke” show at the Hollywood Bowl on Tuesday night.
While phones are typically locked away during Chappelle live events, there were videos that surfaced showing the incident and events that occurred after.

In video posted to social media, the man, who LAPD later identified as 23-year-old Isiah Lee, climbed the stage as Chappelle was getting ready to introduce a special guest, ran toward Chappelle in an attempted tackle, but tripped to the floor before running away.
The man was apprehended and taken backstage, to which Chappelle said over the microphone, “hold on. I got to see this.”
LAPD said Lee had a knife that looked like a replica gun at the time of being arrested for assault with a deadly weapon.
Chappelle did not seem to be hurt and continued the show.
An additional video from the crowd showed Chappelle returning to the stage and saying, “I’ve done this 35 years—I just stomped a n—a backstage. I always wanted to do that.”
Another video from the crowd showed a huddled group seemingly kicking and stomping at something on the floor, although it is not clear that it was Lee at the bottom of the pile.

Soon after the incident, fellow comedian Chris Rock made his way to the stage as a special guest and joked saying, “Was that Will Smith?” referring to his own on-stage incident at the 2022 Oscars.
Video from outside the venue showed Lee being transported to an ambulance on a gurney, after which he was taken to a local hospital.

Representatives for Chappelle provided a statement on Wednesday, saying:
“As unfortunate and unsettling as the incident was, Chappelle went on with the show. Jamie Foxx and Chris Rock helped calm the crowd with humor before Chappelle introduced the last and featured musical guests for the evening, hip-hop artists yasiin bey and Talib Kweli, a.k.a. Black Star, who performed music from their new album – the first in nearly 24 years – which was released on Luminary,” The statement read. “This run ties Chappelle with Monty Python for the most headlined shows by any comedian at the Hollywood Bowl, reaching 70,000 fans of diverse backgrounds during the first Netflix Is A Joke: The Festival.”
