Altona, Victoria: Two men filmed allegedly vandalising mobile speed camera

Shocking footage of two men attacking a mobile speed camera in Melbourne has been released by police.

On Wednesday January 25, two men approached a Victoria Police traffic camera parked on Civic Parade in Altona between 6.30pm and 7.30pm.

During the first incident, police say a man on a bicycle approached the vehicle and allegedly spat on the window.

Police also allege he was verbally aggressive towards the camera operator and punched the driver’s side mirror.

The man is described as being of medium build, with grey hair and stubble.

He was wearing a black and white “Lonsdale” singlet, and has a black flame tattoo on his right calf.

He was last seen heading in a westerly direction along Civic Parade.

An hour later, a second man dressed in a beige balaclava allegedly splashed white paint over the vehicle’s back windscreen and threatened the operator with a tomahawk.

The man is described as a slim build, about 182cm tall and was wearing a camouflage top with dark jeans.

Police say he fled in a westerly direction along Civic Parade onto Bent St before getting into a black Mercedes C-Class or similar.

The camera operator was not injured during either incident, but police do believe they were linked.

Anyone who may have witnessed either incident or has dashcam footage available is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
