Anyone in possession of a Force Touch trackpad with force-click technology may have noticed that the extra firm clicks sometimes do not immediately produce the desired result. This may have to do with the intensity with which you click.
By clicking extra hard with one finger on the trackpad you can activate extras such as quick view or look up a word. You can’t actually press the Force Touch trackpad, but this is simulated with extra pressure and haptic feedback. That is why it can be adjusted software-wise via the System Preferences.
Adjust Force Touch Trackpad Intensity
- Open ▸ System Preferences/System Settings
- Click on ‘Trackpad’
- Navigate to the ‘Point and Click’ tab
With the option ‘Click’ you can set the intensity by moving the slider to light, normal or firm. If you set this to light, you will notice that the trackpad is more sensitive and activates the force click faster. This can make unwanted clicking worse, it is best to set this to firm, then you have to click extra hard to activate force-click.
